VR1 (Fast Road 1 in English) is the only motorway in Madeira Island. Its construction has started in 1989 and completed in 2005. With 44 km it goes from Ribeira Brava to Porto do Caniçal, providing a fast connection between Funchal and the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport. Inside Funchal city, this motorway is also known as Cota 200.

Ribeira Brava, Caniçal, Queimada, Santa Cruz and Marmeleiros tunnels CJC worked in alternative projects and in the assistance of tunnels entrance in NATM and in the detailed project of Câmara de Lobos tunnel.
